Chevening in Mongolia
Introduction
Chevening is the UK Government’s global scholarship programme that offers future leaders the unique opportunity to study in the UK. These scholarships are awarded to outstanding professionals from all over the world to pursue a one-year master’s degree in any subject at any UK university. Through the Chevening/MECSS Partnership Scholarships Scheme, the British and Mongolian Governments jointly invest in talented individuals with focused career plans, the potential to become influential leaders in their field and the desire to contribute to Mongolia's future.
Field of study
Priority will be given to applicants who want to pursue studies in fields that support the following objectives:
a. International relations.
b. Environment and Climate change.
c. Business, economics and innovation.
d. Good governance, human rights and democracy.
Expenses Covered:
1. university tuition fees
2. a monthly stipend
3. travel costs to and from the UK
4. an arrival allowance
5. a homeward departure allowance
6. the cost of one visa application
7. a travel grant to attend Chevening events in the UK
Eligibility:
- be a Mongolian citizen at the time of applying for the award and intend to return to Mongolia at the end of the period of study;
- already hold a degree that is equivalent to at least a UK second-class honors degree;
- have completed at least two years’ work or equivalent experience by the end of September in the year prior to the academic year for which the scholarship applies;
- have good English language skills (a minimum IELTS score of 6.5. Some courses, e.g. law, also require a higher IELTS score)
- have not already received or be receiving financial benefit from a British Government funded scholarship;
- have a track of record of excellence and achievement in their field;
- have a clear idea about how their scholarship will benefit Mongolia on their return;
- be able to demonstrate that they have leadership potential;
- employees, employees’ relatives (or former employees who have left employment less than two years before) of the British Government and or any of its wholly-owned subsidiaries will not be eligible to apply for the Award.
Required Documents
Applicants will need to apply separately to three different master’s courses directly via the university. To be awarded a scholarship, you must get an unconditional offer from at least one of your course choices by the specified date.
To apply for a Chevening Scholarship, you must register online via https://www.chevening.org/apply and submit the required documents online such as a copy of your valid passport/ID document, certificates and transcripts for each completed course of study or transcripts only for incomplete courses, valid English language test results, reference letters and essays.
Selection Process
- Online application via www.chevening.org/apply, submission of required documents: referee information, short essays answering questions about the applicants’ leadership and networking skills, studying in the UK, career goals, etc.
- Shortlisted candidates who successfully passed the application review stage will be announced and invited to interview.
- Interview results will be announced in June.
- If the successful candidate receives at least one unconditional UK university offer, he/she will be awarded a Chevening Scholarship and will commence their studies in September/October.
